Canwest extensions: a timeline

22Apr09

Canwest has continuously reached deals with its creditors to extend debt repayment. The company was granted another stay of execution, which will no doubt satisfy media until the next story about Canwest’s generous lenders, which will probably be printed around, oh, May 5 or so. This has become something of a theme in recent months:

April 14 (CBC)

April 8 (Alberni Valley Times)

March 11 (Reuters)

February 26 (New York Times)

January 15 (Toronto Star)

There might be more stories that report on other payment deadlines that I missed, but I don’t know entirely what to make of all of this coverage. It seems to be getting more play than the struggles of most other papers and broadcasters (read: most papers and broadcasters). I guess that’s natural. Canwest is a big company that is teetering.
